Deliciously Affordable BBQ Pork Tenderloin Recipe

Preparing the Pork Tenderloin:

It's important to note that this is a pork tenderloin recipe not a pork loin which cooks differently.

Trim silver skin from the pork tenderloin, this is the tough connective tissue on the outside of the meat. Season evenly with the rub.

Rub Ingredients for BBQ Pork Tenderloin:

This will make enough rub for future meals, but great to have on hand for a quick BBQ of pork or chicken.

-2 pork tenderloins

-1/2 cup brown sugar

-1/2 cup paprika

-1 tablespoon Cajun spice

-1 tablespoon garlic powder

-1 tablespoon onion powder

-1 tablespoon ground black pepper

-1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (Optional)

Cooking Methods for BBQ Pork tenderloin

Grill over high direct heat on the BBQ for a few mins on each side to get some good crust and colouring.

Turn off one side of the BBQ and Move the Pork over to the indirect heat to finish cooking.

Keep the BBQ lid closed only opening to temp.

Cook to your desired temperature, The National Pork Board recommends a safe temperature of 145-146 F.

Let it rest for 5-10 minutes.

Slice and enjoy your BBQ pork tenderloin.

Flavor Enhancements (Optional)

This is a great enhancer for basting the meat prior to moving to the indirect heat, when you check the temperature and after you pull it off the BBQ. You can also pour the remainder over the meat prior to cutting.

-½ cup honey

-½ cup chicken stock

-1 tbsp corn starch

-1 tbsp soy sauce

-2 tbsp minced garlic

-1 tsp crushed red peppers

Cost Breakdown:

-2 pork tenderloins purchased for just under 8.00 on sale at Metro.

-Corn 1.00/cob at the roadside stand, local corn.

-Full bag of Russet potatoes bought at Walmart for 3.00

-Green and Yellow beans grown in my garden.

-The rub was made from ingredients I had on hand and makes a fair amount, so it will be used again for pork or chicken menus. The exact cost for today is likely under 5.00.
